Hello,
My name is Matthew Hunt and I am the founder of Kairos Dance. I am a professional dancer and a lover of Jesus Christ. I want to create cinematic pieces that speak spiritual truths to today’s society through the art of dance. I believe God has called me to minister to the hearts of people who are broken like I was before I found God, and I think I am uniquely positioned to do it through a cinematic medium.
Recently Kairos Dance became Kairos Dance Ministries, an officially recognized 501 (c)(3) organization! This means that all monetary donations made are tax deductible in pursuit of the organizations’ greater goal: to speak spiritual truths to our society through the art of dance and film.
My Story:
My entire testimony about how God found me and turned me around would be quite a lengthy story, but I will attempt to provide an abridged version to explain how I went from a man entrenched in sin to someone who has found his purpose and calling through Jesus Christ.
A little bit about my background: I attended Oklahoma City University where I received my Bachelor of Performing Arts in Dance Performance, focusing primarily on classical styles of dance such as ballet, jazz, and tap. After graduating, I worked for about 4 years as a performer on luxury cruise liners.
In 2017, I was (in theory) in one of the best places of my life. After years of trying to coordinate our contracts, I had just finished performing on a cruise ship with my girlfriend Lindsey (now my wife). I was home for Christmas to meet my new nephew and to introduce Lindsey to my entire family. I had every reason to be happy, but I was deeply unfulfilled with my life and I didn't know why. I felt a gaping hole in my heart, and nothing I did could fill it. I was stuck in sin, coveting things I did not have, and trying to be something I was not.
My dad told me I had a spiritual void in my soul and it turned out he was right. My family always went to church, but I never really “got it” or saw the point. It was their thing; I was just along for the ride. Well I felt so broken, I was willing to try anything, so I decided to give Jesus a shot. Fast forward a year, and several crazy God encounters later, my life was completely changed. A year after I made the commitment to try following Christ, He entered my life in full. I literally felt like a new being; I had never felt or expected such a distinct physical sensation. I felt clean. Born anew. Whole. The Lord picked me up, turned me around, and set me on the path I am on today. All I want is for others to experience this same freedom I was so graciously given.
Where are we now?
Currently my wife Lindsey and I are living in the busy city of San Antonio, Texas. I work as a dance instructor and choreographer at several dance programs in the surrounding area. We are immensely thankful and humbled by the opportunities that the Lord has provided for us in the brief time that we have been here.
